Beginning with the 2007 competition, photographers were instructed to submit their works online and then be judged online. It was a great success. With that experience behind us, Editorial cartoonists in 2008 were added to the online judging process. Step-by-step instructions on doing so can be found by clicking on the How To Register and How to Submit Entries links from the Online Submissions menu. The process is easy and has earned good reviews from those submitting online. It also makes it possible for judges to do their work online and from anywhere they can connect to the Internet. Entries for 2009 begin December 15th
2007 Winner: Serge Chapleau of La Presse in Montreal shows off his artist’s touch with two portraits. One is of Justin Trudeau, garbed in an outfit reminiscent of his late father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, including the familiar red rose. And if there’s some doubt where the style came from, check out the little tag. “Costume de Papa”. Another is a wickedly drawn caricature of Karlheinz Schreiber as a movie poster for his “vaudeville” act in front of the Commons ethics committee. And a third shows who really controls the strings and wields the power in Russia. This was Chapleau’s 10th nomination. He has won this award six times.
